It's a funny thing...mostly over the years my turns of phrases and references are becoming more and more Orthodox but in my head the "The Feast of The Presentation of Christ in the Temple" is still "Candlemas".
We went candle shopping this week but all of our little local places were cleared out during the holiday season, we were only able to snag a pillar and a few little votives.
I really prefer to buy locally made stuff and was not sure where to look but I dug out a little box of candles marked "Hanukkah" candles we had picked up at the co-op last year and use for various feast days projects . (Like Holy Innocents)
The box said Big Dipper Wax Works and is based out of Seattle.
Not county local but still regional . I ordered off their "clearance/seconds" list but everything is lovely. Of course being beeswax they smell lovely, they are even and smooth but the best thing was they also came wrapped in tissue and paper shreds- zero plastic wrap or foam bits! Yay Big Dipper! Plus the order came super fast and had free matches and a pack of honey candy thrown in. Highly recommend them!
We will have lots of candles now to decorate for the year and to use in our icon corners and to share with our fellow parishioners. It is one of the kiddos favorite feast day projects. I will take another pic when we get them all ready!
